Workshop for Early Career Bioethics Scholars
Edinburgh, 13 June 2016, prior to World Congress of Bioethics
The Clinical Center Department of Bioethics at the U.S. National Institutes of Health and the University of Bergen invite international applicants for an intensive workshop to support the research of early career bioethics scholars. The one day workshop will include presentations by experienced academics on bioethics research methods, research programs, and career planning. In addition, each participant will receive expert and peer mentoring on a conceptual or empirical work in progress with the aim of publishing in a peer-reviewed journal. The workshop is intended to be complementary to the World Congress of Bioethics (14 – 17 June 2016). Workshop participants are also expected to attend the World Congress of Bioethics and to have submitted an abstract to that conference (though acceptance of the abstract for presentation is not a requirement).
Successful applicants from low- and middle-income country institutions (World Bank criteria) will be fully supported to attend the pre-conference workshop and the World Congress of Bioethics, including travel costs, accommodation, and registration fees. Individuals from high-income country institutions are welcome to apply, but will be expected to cover their own costs. The total number of participants will be limited in order to ensure sufficient mentoring for each.
Application requirements:
- Curriculum Vitae
- An abstract, complete unpublished draft paper, or empirical research proposal
- Confirmation from the International Association of Bioethics of submission of a paper or symposium proposal (see http://iab2016.com/submission-of-abstracts/ [disclaimer] for details; World Congress of Bioethics deadline is January 15th 2016)
Deadline: 15 February 2016.
