Amina White, MD, MA

Dr. Amina White is an obstetrician-gynecologist who is committed to women's healthcare and the training of medical students and residents in the ethical practice of medicine. As a faculty member in the Department of Bioethics, Dr. White focuses primarily on the study of ethical challenges that physicians face during training and in clinical practice when caring for vulnerable patient populations in the setting of office pressures and time constraints. Her research includes topics such as patient-physician communication in the era of electronic health records, patient activation and engagement of disadvantaged or marginalized patient groups, and trauma-informed practices in obstetrics and gynecology for women who disclose a past history of abuse.
Prior to joining the bioethics faculty at the NIH, Dr. White completed her undergraduate education at Yale University, obtained her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, and completed her OB/GYN residency training at Georgetown University Hospital. After her medical training, she obtained a Master's Degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Ethics and the Professions from Georgetown University and went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Bioethics at the NIH. Since 2008, she has been an Assistant Professor at the Howard University College of Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
